Kuala Lumpur, 29 January 2019: For thousands of years, the Chinese usher in the Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival with a firm belief that “a year’s plan starts with spring; a day’s plan starts with early morning” (一年之计在于春, 一日之计在于晨). In line with this, Hong Leong Bank Berhad’s (‘HLB’ or ‘the Bank’) has launched Good Things Begin in Spring with over RM18 million worth of giveaways to reward consumers who take the first steps towards building a stronger financial foundation today so that they can achieve their dreams of tomorrow.

 

Domenic Fuda, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of HLB said that the campaign is not only in tune with the Chinese belief that the Spring Festival is a time to start early planning for a great year ahead, but also in line with the Bank’s long-term campaign, ‘Seeding Dreams’ which promotes the cultivation of a savings habit and early planning for a stronger financial foundation for the future especially amongst the younger generations.

 

“Chinese New Year is more than just a celebration of a new lunar calendar; it is an auspicious period for people to start seeding their dreams for the future, especially when it comes to ensuring a solid financial foundation for themselves and their loved ones. To bring the campaign message to life, HLB has also introduced its heart-warming Chinese New Year brand film, entitled ‘Pay Back Time’, showcasing a mother who expects her daughter to start contributing back to the household once she starts working. “In many Asian families, parents expect their children to give a portion of their earnings to them as soon as they start working, not as a payment for their years of care and parenting, but as a way to apportion some savings for their children to help them build a stronger financial foundation because they know savings are not always prioritized,” said Zalman Zainal, Chief Marketing and Communication Officer of HLB.

“With this brand film, we see how the love and wisdom of Ah Girl’s parents in helping her save some of her salaries from the start of her career have helped her to capitalize on opportunity when it presented itself. Hopefully, more consumers can take that first step towards cultivating the habit of savings, whether for themselves or for their loved ones and take advantage of the exciting promotions that the Bank has lined up for this Chinese New Year,” added Zalman.
